I’m Olya Tsikhanchuk — illustrator, pattern lover, color enthusiast, and professional idea-generator. I move between graphic design, illustration, pattern creation, and creative projects that bring people together. Basically, if it can be made brighter, bolder, and more joyful — I’m in. My work is cheerful, colorful, and full of character. It lives happily in both commercial projects and artistic spaces, and along the way it has led to exhibitions, international collaborations, and lots of exciting creative adventures.
Instagram is my daily playground. I share new illustrations, experiments, behind-the-scenes moments, and little pieces of my inner world there. It’s the easiest way to see what I’m currently creating — and to get a real feel for me as an artist (and as a human). Come take a look — I promise, it’s colorful and joyful. BIOGRAPHY AND PHYLOSOPHY
Olya Tsikhanchuk (b. 1987) is a Belarusian-born artist based in Ostrobothnia, Finland. She moved to Finland in 2013 with the intention of continuing her career as a language teacher, having earned her first university degree from Minsk State Linguistic University. However, after experiencing the challenges of integrating into Finnish society and the difficulties of having her qualifications recognized, she chose to pursue a new creative path. She studied Graphic Design at Novia University of Applied Sciences in Jakobstad, graduating in 2020, and later completed a Master of Arts degree in Circular Design, further expanding her interest in the relationship between design, society, and the environment.
Tsikhanchuk works as a freelance illustrator and graphic designer, creating illustrations for clothing, pattern design, and visual content for brands across digital and print media. In recent years, her practice has expanded to include painting, allowing her to further develop her artistic voice and explore a more personal visual language.
Color is at the heart of Tsikhanchuk’s work. She sees color as fundamental to the human experience—something that can elevate our mood, challenge our perception of reality, and carry powerful political meaning. Her use of color is shaped by her own life experiences: being born in the Soviet Union, immigrating to Finland and navigating the process of building a new life while embracing cultural differences, witnessing Belarus’s political struggle and resistance, and experiencing the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine — two countries she has long considered part of her cultural home. Through her vibrant work, Tsikhanchuk invites viewers into conversations that nurture hope and imagine possibilities for a more compassionate future. She envisions a world that is vibrant, beautiful, and safe for everyone, where access to color, beauty, and creative expression is understood as a fundamental part of the human experience.
Tsikhanchuk explores art history, with admiration for the Modernists, and is encouraged by the ideas presented by Alan Moore: “The act of creating something beautiful is a way of bringing good into the world. Infused with optimism, it says simply: ‘Life is worthwhile.” The paintings and prints by Olya demonstrate artist’s belief that beauty is not merely aesthetic, but a meaningful act of hope, resilience, and care.
